Speaking at a cabinet session on Wednesday, Rouhani slammed the French disrespect for the prophet of Islam as an immoral action that encourages violence and has provoked the sentiments of billions of Muslim and non-Muslim people.
He also called on those who have “made the mistake” to make up for their actions and begin respecting justice, morality and all divine religions.
If the West, Europe and France are really after establishment of peace and security in the human society, they must stop interfering in the internal affairs of Muslims, Rouhani added.
A clear example of such Western interference is obvious in Yemen, where poor people are dying in attacks by Western bombs and fighter jets that the West has provided for the aggressors, he said.
Earlier this month, Macron pledged to fight “Islamist separatism”, which he said was threatening to take control in some Muslim communities around France.
He also described Islam as a religion “in crisis” worldwide and said the government would present a bill in December to strengthen a 1905 law that officially separated church and state in France.
His comments, in addition to his backing of satirical outlets publishing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), have drawn widespread condemnation from Muslims across the world.
