Head of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Hossein Selahvarzi met with India’s Ambassador to Tehran Rudra Gaurav Shresth on Wednesday during which he called for the implementation of a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between the two countries as soon as possible.

He pointed to high customs tariffs and financial transfer issues as the two main obstacles for the development of trade relations between Iran and India, and emphasized the acceleration of implementing the PTA between the two countries, especially in the field of agriculture, the ICCIMA portal reported.

“In order to develop economic and trade relations between Iran and India, the two obstacles of high customs tariffs and financial transfer issues in the trade between the two countries should be resolved as soon as possible,” Selahvarzi said.
In this meeting, Rudra Gaurav Shrest stated that the U.S. sanctions on Iran, despite the restrictions, have provided an opportunity to diversify the trade of the two countries.
“In addition to bilateral trade and investments, India is interested in using Iran’s commercial transit capacity due to its geographical location,” he said.
