Gas supply to power plants rises 14% in 10 months yr/yr

The National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) has supplied 28 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) of gas on average to the country’s power plants on a daily basis in the first 10 months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2023-January 20, 2024), 14 percent more than the average for the previous year.

According to Saeed Aqli, the NIGC has also supplied 20 mcm/d of gas to major industries during the mentioned period which is seven percent more than the average amount for the previous year’s same 10 months, IRNA reported.
“With the programs that we have implemented in the commercial, household, and non-major industries sectors, and at the same time, the measures that have been carried out for ensuring more gas production, since the beginning of this year, gas supply to the national network has increased by four billion cubic meters in comparison to the previous year,” Aqli said.

According to the official, the incentives that the NIGC considered for low-consuming households in the current calendar year led to a decrease in gas consumption by six percent.
Back in September 2023, NIGC Head Majid Chegeni said the cumulative gas supply to the country’s power plants in the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-September 22, 2023) increased by 16 percent compared to last year’s same period, registering a new record high.

According to Chegeni, due to the increase in gas supply in the mentioned period, the consumption of liquid fuel in the power plants significantly decreased which resulted in less air pollution.
Mentioning NIGC programs for the gas supply in the cold season, the official said: “We hope that with the measures taken in various sectors from production and distribution to transmission, we will successfully pass this winter as well as last year.”
