Cellphone imports fall 27% in 4 months yr/yr

The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) said 2.857 million cellphone handsets, valued at $688 million, were imported into the country in the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20–July 20), registering a 27 percent decline, year on year.
Based on the IRICA data, the imports of cellphones in the mentioned four months also decreased by 17 percent in terms of value compared to the same period in the previous year, IRNA reported.

In this period, more than 2,739,179 mobile handsets were imported through the commercial method while 117,826 of the cellphone handsets were imported by passengers.
The IRICA previously announced that 2,049,279 cellphone handsets, valued at $527,509 million, were imported into the country in the first three months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20–June 20).
In this period, more than 1,950,483 mobile handsets were imported commercially while 98,976 of the cellphone handsets were imported by passengers, it reported.

According to IRICA, the cell phones imported in this period registered a 27 percent and 11 percent reduction in volume and value, respectively.
Back on December 30, the president of IRICA said that more than 10 million cellphone handsets, valued at $2.2 billion, had been imported in the first nine months of that year, which started in March 2023.
